Dear Diary - T Minus 4 - What's in a Name...?

4 days to go. The excitement is palpable. Poor Sims is recovering on the sofa with flu and so I'm going out to Rusholme to get some curry-eating practice in.... in the meantime...

This evening, whilst researching our holiday on the internet, I learned from a review by a previous visitor to the island that Meedhupparu means Pearl in Dhivehi. How beautiful. Well, I thought that I’d learned that Meedhupparu meant Pearl in Dhivehi until I looked Pearl up in an English to Dhivehi dictionary where I learned that Muiy or Muthee both mean Pearl.

When I looked up Meedhupparu in the Dhivehi to English dictionary I couldn’t find it listed. The closest words that I could find close were Meedhaa which means rat, Meehaa, which means person, (and is frighteningly close to Meedhaa), and Meehun which is the plural of Meehaa and means people… Hupparu isn’t a word either.
